Aalborg Kanonlaug is a volunteer cannon guild founded in 1995. We maintain and fire historic cannons for salutes at official and festive occasions in Aalborg and North Jutland.
Our history
Aalborg Kanonlaug was founded on 18 November 1995 by a group of people from Aalborg who shared an interest in historic cannons, old traditions and the city’s maritime history. Their aim was to keep the tradition of gun salutes alive and to make Aalborg’s history come alive for everyone.
Since 2002 the guild has been based under the Limfjord Bridge. Every New Year’s Eve since 1998 we have named the “Cannon of the Year” during the salute at Gammeltorv. Over the years our cannons have fired salutes at carnivals, Tall Ships races, regattas, anniversaries and visits by Danish and foreign ships.
In 2025 the guild helped open the Cannon Park on Aalborg’s waterfront, the result of many hours of volunteer work.

The Cannon Park
The Cannon Park (Kanonparken) on Aalborg’s waterfront, right by the Limfjord Bridge, displays old muzzle-loading cannons. The park is always open and free to visit.
